Music I'm Listening To While I Journalist « I live in Doha, therefore I ...

This brings the dreamy hippie-eque 70s cool of Fleetwood Mac into the 21st century, darker, edgier, but still with those killer lyrics. I found this song through my obsessive reading of Amanda Palmer’s blog and it was a sad reason I came to her friend’s blog The Bee Charmer, but both are well worth a look.

Fave lyrics

“Thunder only happens when it’s raining

Players only love you when they’re playing.”

I don’t know how I missed this artist the first time round – I only discovered her about a year before her “comeback”.

Fave lyrics

“I’ve been careless with a delicate man.”

I have no idea how to describe her music – it’s layered like classical music but made by robots and sung incomprehensibly.

Fave lyrics

“If someone could break your neck

Coming up behind you always coming and you’d never have a clue.”

Fave lyrics

“i wouldn’t kill to get you back and i’ve officially been asked

i couldn’t kill to save a life i’d rather die a peaceful piece of shit-bait shame-filled coward”

Amanda Palmer doesn’t do capitalisation. I love this woman. Not for that reason.

A new discovery – Beyonce’s sister sings! I seriously thought she just hung out in nice clothes.

Fave lyrics

“We used to kiss all night but now there’s just no fuse.”

I love covers. I found this song on Music Hipsters Like. It’s the twisting, the subversive element – my cover obsession when I was in Pie in the Sky in Edinburgh on Cockburn Street and the shop was playing a cover of Shakira’s Whenever, Wherever and the guy was singing about how it was lucky his breasts were “small and humble, so you don’t confuse them, with mountains.” GENDER BEND!

Fave lyrics

“And all the other boys try to chase me…”
