Mariah Carey took the stage at the BET Awards 2012 for an emotional tribute in honor her friend and peer, the late Whitney Houston.
"I miss my friend," Carey, 42, said to the crowd chocking back tears. "I miss hearing her voice and laughter, but we'll always have the music."
"She inspired us all," Carey said before introducing the long line of talented performers. Whitney's mother Cissy Houston, her brother Gary Houston and R&B singers Monica, Brandy and Chaka Khan also took the stage for the tribute, performing in the "I Will Always Love You" singer's honor.
Though Cissy, 78, did not sing a song of her daughter's, she did move the crowd with her rendition of Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water."

There wasn't a dry-eye left in the building after the music icon's mother performed in front of an audience that included Beyonce Knowles, Jay-Z and Kayne West.

Whitney passed away on Feb. 11, 2012 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, just one night before the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, Calif. She was 48.
