Good Morning America got a first look at the upcoming animated adventure Epic from Fox and Blue Sky Studios—based on William Joyce's kids book The Leaf Men, and formerly titled such. The 3-D CG adventure is set to hit theaters May 24, 2013.
Directed by Chris Wedge (Ice Age, Robots), the film centers on a teenage girl who finds herself deep into the forest—and only a few inches high—thrust in the middle of a struggle between good and evil. The voice cast includes Amanda Seyfried as Mary Katherine, Josh Hutcherson as Nod, Beyonce Knowles, Johnny Knoxville, Aziz Ansari, Judah Friedlander, Pitbull, Jason Sudeikis and Steven Tyler. The setting is a lush change from previous Blue Sky films, and the trailer reveals a masterful handling that combines realistic flora and fauna with just-cartoony-enough human characters blending in quite well.
