Blue Sky Studios has certainly had an impressive animation resume. Though they're known best for what will be four Ice Age films out of their six film roster so far, they've also pumped out successful box office hits Rio and Robots as well. Responsible for Robots and the original Ice Age, director Chris Wedge has long been gone from the big screen. It's been seven years since he graced the screen, and it's about time that he returns to possibly introduce a new franchise. Now, his latest Blue Sky effort Epic has unveiled its first trailer today, and while it certainly has an epic action motif, it also has some comedy moments that may turn some people off.

A fearless troupe of bugs assigned the task of protecting the garden enlist the aid of the mythical Leaf Men to defeat the dreaded Spider Queen and keep the vegetable patch safe in this animated adventure based on author William Joyce's illustrated children's book The Leaf Men and The Brave Good Bugs. Oscar-winning director Chris Wedge (Ice Age, Robots) takes the reins to helm a screenplay penned by Joyce and Jim V. Hart.

Featuring the voice talents of Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson, Colin Farrell, Beyonce Knowles, Jason Sudeikis, Pitbull, Judah Freilander and Steven Tyler, Epic is due out in May 2013.
