I'm taking a look at what Google has had to offer lately, and it is mostly interesting. Google has offered us GooglePlay which has music, movies, and TV all in one place. GooglePlay is a cloud service that works right with your google mail account. The beautiful thing about the service, is that you have access to all your content wherever you may be, right from your phone and/or tablet.
Ok that's great, GooglePlay sounds pretty sweet, but what of it? My cellphone is small, while it's good for portability and the occasional downtime filler, it can be rendered useless most of the time. We live in a consumerist world in which bigger is always better, better and bigger means that we can shove it in our friend's and family's faces, right?
Well, Google came up with a plan for us all. There is this new device, it goes by the name of Google Nexus Q, and it looks like an Olympic sport hammer toss ball. The idea of the ball is that it allows for the ultimate connectivity with all your home devices.
Haven't we heard of a similar device somewhere, sometime? Yes, in fact we have. Apple has a device called AppleTV – whoa, that's such a stretch. I'm glad that Apple has a great team of "name that whatchamacallit" people. – the Apple TV allows you to stream anything you have on your desktop straight unto your television set. There is also the Roku device which allows you to stream….bleh…same thing, same thing. Google is a little late in getting into the game, but let's continue and explain what the Google Nexus Q has to offer.
The mysterious black ball will light up when in use, making it even more mysterious and great for parties – "Hey John, whats that glowy thing on top of your entertainment system?" "The black one? That's my Google Nexus Q, neat huh?" "Whatever you call it, it's giving me the creeps, it's got some black magic or something because its glowing at me." "I think it likes you" -.
Google Nexus Q allows you to stream wirelessly most of your GooglePlay content; this includes and is restricted to your Movies, TV shows, Music, and here's the bonus…you can stream YouTube videos through it. The GNQ works directly with your Android device, which requires only for you to download an app.
Want to get your friends into the action? Sure, the GNQ has something for that. When streaming something unto your TV, any friend can just open up the app on their own Android device and say "hey, let me change that song", and effectively exchange your awesome tunage for Lionel Ritchie's "Hello". In theory it's a good idea, in reality there will be a constant bickering over who has the ultimate control over the music being played.
That's not all boys and girls, the GNQ allows you to also stream all the movies and TV shows you may have on your GooglePlay account. Play some YouTube videos too, because YouTube always brings a group of people to unite in criticizing some poor ballsy fool.
The Google Nexus Q has a Micro-HDMI output, an optical audio port, an Ethernet jack, and a Micro-USB port in case you need it. Connectivity also includes the dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC (near-field communication. The GNQ runs a version of Android 4.0 with 16GB of onboard flash memory, 1GB RAM, and a dual-core processor.
The product will be sold to the general public at $299.00. I believe this is a price that will deter most of us from even thinking about buying it. For the capabilities of this piece of tech, $299 is way too much and not worth the hassle. Also think about what may happen if you misplace your Android device but still want to stream something. Or if a mad, crazy, obnoxious being busts into your living room and demands you return the mysterious orb to its rightful owner. You will try and contest it and declare that the GNQ is actually a man-made device that was created for entertainment purposes. The being will not believe you and warn you about the repercussions that will affect the whole world. THE WHOLE WORLD. Think about it. If I were you, I would think twice about this device.
